2013 Summer Intern Series: Meet Me Halfway

Summer is flying by and the interns at our JWT New York office are already halfway through their experience at one of the world’s oldest ad agencies. We had the opportunity to catch up with Jason and Carl to hear about what their life has been like over the past 5 weeks at JWT.

It is hard to believe that we are already at the half way point of the summer here at JWT. Things have really started to pick up a lot on my account since the last post as we are currently in the processes of rolling out a 360 campaign for our client this fall. This has allowed for a ton of great learning experiences that involve all ends of the ad development process and even a few late nights in the office. Despite the late nights, it has been really cool to see things come to life all the way from a client brief through to full production. While all of this is going on, we also are in the thick of 2014 business planning, which is really exciting as a planner because it allows us to impact the direction and shape of the brand. Overall, the internship has been great so far and I am really looking forward to seeing the advertisements come out this fall. It will be great to be able to say that I not only worked on them, but also understand the messaging and immense amount of work that went into the process.

The best part of being in both the Art Buying & Print Production departments is that I get to experience the development of a print ad first hand. Between buying props, selecting appropriate photographers, coordinating photo-shoots and purchasing existing images for retouching, I’ve gained a new appreciation for this type of advertising and the amount of time, effort, attention to detail and technique that goes into each print ad.

While I’m still busy hunting for the best-suited event marketing company for one of our clients, there are many other projects that I am involved with. One of my favorites is my involvement with Differenter, an organization within JWT New York that promotes diversity. Currently I’m in charge of editing the footage from the Gay Pride Event that Differenter held here at JWT a couple of weeks ago. I’m hoping the video will be ready for me to share with you in my next blog post!

For the second half of my internship I’m most looking forward to gaining new skills and meeting with other WPP interns at our networking event next week. I also cannot wait to finish out the JWT Commodores softball season.
