Salma Selim has been interning in Creative department at J. Walter Thompson Cairo this summer. When she returns to school, Salma will continue pursuing a Bachelor in Graphic Design at École de Communication Visuelle in Paris.
This intern extraordinaire has already completed her first year in interior design & scenography at École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques, also in Paris, and attended her foundation year L’institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués in Strasbourg, France.
In the interview below, this ambitious intern and student takes a few moments to recap her internship experience at J. Walter Thompson Cairo.
Q: How did you choose your major?
A: I have always been keen on art: dancing, painting, photography, fashion illustration and jewelry design. My father is a diplomat, so I have traveled and lived in many different countries, which made me discover new places, new cultures and develop my artistic skills. During my first year in France; I did a foundation year and I quickly decided to study Graphic Design.

Q: Which department did you intern in here at J. Walter Thompson?
A: I interned as an Art Director for the two months. I worked with the BTL team during my first month here, and during my second I joined the Branding team.
Q: Did you have a mentors during your time here at J. Walter Thompson Cairo? How did they help you grow?
A: During my internship with the BTL team, Sherif Makki was my mentor. He was very helpful, very patient and taught me a lot about advertising. During my second month, Ibrahim Islam was my mentor, he brainstormed ideas with me, and helped me discover new concepts.
Q: What have you gained in your internship experience?
A: Interning at J. Walter Thompson made me discover two different areas: advertising and branding. I was able to develop my artistic and computer skills. In addition, I learned how to effectively manage my time. Most importantly, I had the opportunity to network and meet people from different backgrounds.
